Along the Path of Opportunities: a public lecture was given by the Head of Russian Highways Vyacheslav Petushenko at MADI

Chairman of the Board of the Russian Highways State Company Vyacheslav Petushenko gave a lecture for the students of Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI). To help the guys decide on their future career, the Head of the Russian Highways told them about all the key points of the road-building profession, from ensuring the safety of the existing road network to the design and construction of bleeding-edge highways.

He introduced the Company's current and future projects to the audience, paying close attention not only to modern construction technologies, but also to the significance of these projects for improving the quality of life.

A case in point is the M-12 Vostok highway stretching from Moscow to Kazan. This is a project of unprecedented scale in modern times. More than 800 km of the most advanced highway in the country were built in a record-breaking three years, and the first sections in the Moscow and Vladimir regions opened as early as in 2022. The effects of the new route became noticeable even before the opening of the entire section to Kazan, and not only regarding the regions through which the M-12 runs, but also those ones that are located farther from the roadway. For each region, this is not only an improvement in transport accessibility and connectivity of territories, but also an influx of investment, the creation of new enterprises and jobs, the development of logistics, and new opportunities for motor tourism.

Vyacheslav Petushenko also revealed to the students the tenets that underlie the State Company’s approach to the development of the road network, the most important of which is customer-centricity. Thus, the Company's roads are not just a smooth strip of asphalt with markings, lighting and barrier fencing. It is a full-fledged infrastructure service for motorists that provides an opportunity to relax comfortably during a long trip at the most advanced multifunctional road service zones, stable cellular communications, 24-hour emergency assistance, and so forth. Therefore, the development of related services for motorists is a highly valuable and promising line of business for the Russian Highways, in which future specialists can also pursue a career.

“When choosing a career of road engineer, you can rest assured that your specialism will never lose its relevance, since roads will always stay in demand. The job of road engineer is both creative and truly rewarding, and its fruits are visible and tangible. A quality highway is not just a quick and comfortable road from point A to point B. It opens up brand new opportunities for millions of motorists and businesses, as well as for individual regions and the entire nation as a whole,” accentuated Vyacheslav Petushenko.

The Russian Highways always welcomes young people keen on becoming road engineers. Currently, the State Company and its subsidiaries employ 220 MADI graduates. Also, the Russian Highways State Company eagerly invites the future experts as interns: last year alone, about 500 students finished their internships at the Company.

Finishing his lecture, Vyacheslav Petushenko announced an all-Russian R&D contest entitled “Development of the Road Building Complex in Russia”. High-school students, students of universities and institutions of secondary vocational education, graduate students, young teachers and scientists are invited to partake in the event. Anyone who is interested in the areas of design, construction, use of roads, digital transformation of road infrastructure and improving traffic safety will be able to try their hand at developing their own projects and defending them before an expert jury. The results of the contest will be summed up in September at the X Forum of Road Initiatives in Sochi.
